The grey sea and the long black land;
And the yellow half-moon large and low;
And the startled little waves that leap
In fiery ringlets from their sleep,
The grey sea and the long black land;
And the yellow half-moon large and low;
And the startled little waves that leap
In fiery ringlets from their sleep,
As I gain the cove with pushing prow,
And quench its speed i' the slushy sand.
Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;
Three fields to cross till a farm appears;
A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch
And blue spurt of a lighted match,
And a voice less loud, thro' its joys and fears,
Than the two hearts beating each to each!
O mar cinzento e a longa terra negra;
E a meia-lua amarela é grande e baixa;
E as pequenas ondas assustadas que saltam
Em cachos de fogo de seu sono,
Enquanto eu ganho a enseada com a proa empurrando,
E saciar sua velocidade i 'a areia lamacenta.
Em seguida, uma milha de praia quente com aroma de mar;
Três campos para atravessar até que uma fazenda apareça;
Uma torneira no painel, o arranhão afiado rápido
E jorro azul de um fósforo aceso,
E uma voz menos barulhenta, através de suas alegrias e medos,
Do que os dois corações batendo cada um para cada um!
